When you secure a mortgage to purchase a property, the financial institution will require you to obtain an insurance policy covering at least third-party fire and theft, with a minimum coverage amount equal to the mortgage value, possibly in exchange for a reduction in the applied interest rates. However, you are not obligated to purchase insurance directly from the company they recommend. You have the flexibility to choose any insurance provider and simply provide a copy of the policy to your mortgage provider.
